This rectangular glass plate has been embellished by the addition of a silk painting to the reverse which is viewed through the glass. The silk is first painted by hand, steamed to fix the colours and then varnished onto the back of the plate using several coats of varnish. The edges are then trimmed to finish. Although not obvious from the photo the plates are not totally flat but concave, having a raised outer edge.
Plates can be washed in warm soapy water but do not leave to soak or wash in a dishwasher.
This design is free painted on the silk without any outlines to make an imaginary landscape with a purple tree in full bloom
